Behind the Ink: Life Inside Plain Insane Graphix
More Than Shirts, Signs, and Banners
Most people see the finished product.
They see the custom t-shirt at a company event, the embroidered hat on a job site, the banner hanging at a fundraiser, or the decal rolling down the highway on a work truck. What they don't often see is everything that happens behind the scenes to bring those projects to life.
At Plain Insane Graphix, our days are filled with creativity, problem-solving, deadlines, coffee, laughter, and occasionally wondering why someone sent us a logo screenshot from Facebook and called it "print-ready artwork." We wouldn't have it any other way.
Behind every order is a team of designers, production staff, sales professionals, marketers, and machine operators working together to transform ideas into something tangible. Some days we're designing logos. Some days we're printing hundreds of shirts. Other days we're installing graphics, troubleshooting equipment, answering customer questions, or brainstorming marketing campaigns.
Working in a print shop isn't always what people imagine. While creativity plays a huge role, there's also plenty of hard work, technical knowledge, and hands-on production involved. Modern printing combines art, technology, manufacturing, and customer service in ways most people never realize until they step inside the shop.
This page is dedicated to sharing the stories behind the work. Through our "Behind the Ink" blog series, we give readers a look at what it's really like to work in a print and graphics company, the lessons we've learned along the way, and the experiences that have helped shape Plain Insane Graphix into what it is today.
Whether you're a customer, fellow business owner, aspiring designer, or simply curious about the print industry, we invite you to take a peek Behind the Ink.
So, You Want to Be a Graphic Designer? What They Don't Tell..
People are often surprised when they visit our shop and see the equipment. Large-format printers aren't little desktop devices. Commercial cutters, laminators, embroidery machines, heat presses, and sign equipment take up serious space and require serious maintenance. These machines have personalities too. Usually difficult personalities.
If you've ever wondered why print shop owners occasionally stare silently into the distance, there's a good chance a machine has just decided today is the day it no longer wants to cooperate.
Designing a Lemoore City Seal and Other Late-Night Musings
When the Lemoore City Seal Contest was announced, I had what I thought was a very reasonable reaction: “This sounds exciting!”
Then about twenty minutes later: “How in the world do you summarize an entire city into one design without making it look like either a casino logo, a school mascot, or a picture of the grocery store produce section?” Because that’s the challenge with a city seal. It’s not just art. It’s identity. It’s history. It’s community pride. It’s creating something people will stare at for years while silently judging every tiny detail. No pressure at all.
The
What Being Voted Best Print Shop Four Years Running Feels Like
In the beginning, success looked like growth. Bigger equipment. More orders. More recognition. More visibility. The usual small-business goals. But somewhere along the way, the definition shifted. Now success looks more like consistency. Being the place people recommend without hesitation. Being the business customers trust with important moments in their lives. Being known for honesty, creativity, reliability, and treating people well even during stressful situations.
That means more than simply being “the biggest” or “the busiest.”
The Brother-and-Sister Team Behind Plain Insane Graphix
Meet Ethan and Megan Robnett, the owners of Plain Insane Graphix in Lemoore.
While they may spend less time in the spotlight, Ethan and Megan are the team responsible for helping shape the vision, creativity, and direction of the company. Together, they bring a unique combination of artistic talent, technical expertise, marketing knowledge, and just enough sibling rivalry to keep things interesting.
While Ethan and Megan may be the current owners of Plain Insane Graphix, the story of the company began long before they took the reins.
The Story Continues
The print industry is constantly changing. New technologies emerge, design trends evolve, and customer expectations grow. Yet some things remain the same: people still want quality products, dependable service, and businesses they can trust.
At Plain Insane Graphix, every project adds another chapter to our story. We hope these articles help you better understand the people, processes, and passion that go into every shirt, sign, banner, decal, and promotional item that leaves our shop.
Thanks for taking the time to get to know us a little better.
